It’s Christmas cocktail time!
Ho, ho, ho! The festive season is here, and there’s no better way to get into the Christmas spirit (pun intended) than with a round of jolly good cocktails. Whether you’re gathering the family around a roaring fire or hosting the most glamorous party of the year, The Borders Distillery has you covered with these deliciously festive drinks – complete with measures, so you can be drink aware.
Our distiller and resident mixologist, Ali, has been busy curating the most delicious and easy homemade cocktails for the festive season. Let’s shake, stir, and sip our way through the holidays!
Festive Old Fashioned: A Classic with Christmas Cheer
It’s like Christmas in a glass—rich, spicy, and oh-so-smooth. This isn’t your typical Old Fashioned; it’s all dressed up for the holidays!
Ingredients
- 50ml WS:01 Borders Malt & Rye 40% ABV
- 10ml syrup (sweet and simple)
- A dash of cinnamon (to spice things up)
- A dash of bitters
Method
- Grab your favourite tumbler and add WS:01 , syrup, a dash of bitters and a dash of cinnamon.
- Stir it up.
- Toss in some ice.
- Garnish with a cinnamon stick or orange peel for that festive flair.
Perfect for when you’re wrapping presents or sneaking one open early. (We won’t tell!)
Gingerbread Mac: Sweetness, Spice and all things nice
If Santa had a signature drink, this would be it. Sweet gingerbread meets the warming kick of WS:02 for a cocktail that’s a total crowd-pleaser.
Ingredients
- 50ml WS:02 The Long & Short of it 40%ABV
- 100ml ginger wine (the secret to the spice)
- A gingerbread man
Method
- Fill a highball glass with ice.
- Pour in WS:02 and ginger wine, giving it a gentle stir.
- Pop a gingerbread man on top for the cutest garnish ever.
Perfect for tree-trimming or justifying a third round of Christmas cookies.
Cranberry G&T: A Splash of Festive Fun
Deck your halls (and your glass) with this bright and zesty G&T. It’s bubbly, merry, and oh-so-pretty—just like you this holiday season!
Ingredients
- 50ml Kerr’s Gin 43%ABV
- 50ml cranberry juice
- Mediterranean tonic water
- Sprig of rosemary (for some Christmas aroma)
Method
- Fill your Kerr’s Gin tumbler.
- Add Kerr’s Gin and cranberry juice.
- Top with tonic water and stir gently, so you don’t spill the sparkle.
- Garnish with a sprig of rosemary (or sugared cranberries if you’re feeling fancy!)
This is your go-to for mistletoe moments and dance parties in the kitchen.
Chocolate Orange Martini: Dessert in a Glass
All the chocolatey, orangey goodness you love, but with a boozy twist. Warning: This one might steal the show from your Christmas pudding.
Ingredients
- 50ml Puffing Billy Vodka 40%ABV
- 100ml hot chocolate (get the good stuff! We use Pittenweem’s)
- 25ml triple sec
Method
- Make your hot chocolate, and allow to cool.
- Shake Puffing Billy Vodka, triple sec, and hot chocolate together with ice until it’s frothy.
- Strain into a coupe glass, and sprinkle some orange zest or chocolate shavings on top.
Perfect for toasting to a day well spent in Christmas pyjamas.
