The Borders Distillery is easy to reach, whether you’re coming from Edinburgh, Carlisle, or further afield. We’re proud to be the first Scotch Whisky distillery in the Scottish Borders since 1837, and even prouder to welcome visitors from across the world to see it for themselves.

Getting here is all part of the experience. Rolling countryside, historic Borders towns, and a proper sense of arrival when you hit Hawick.

Getting Here by Car

Driving is the most direct way to reach us and gives you the flexibility to explore the Scottish Borders along the way.

From Edinburgh (approx. 1 hr 30 mins)

Take the A7 south towards Galashiels
Continue through Galashiels, Selkirk and Ashkirk
Follow signs for Hawick on the A7
Once in Hawick, follow signs for the town centre / Commercial Road

From Carlisle (approx. 1 hr 15 mins)

Take the A7 north through Langholm
Continue straight into Hawick
Follow town centre signage

From Newcastle (approx. 2 hrs)

Take the A696 north to Jedburgh
Then follow the A68 to Denholm / Hawick
Join the A7 into Hawick town centre

Parking in Hawick

There are multiple public car parks within a short walk of the distillery, including:

High Street parking
Buccleuch Street parking areas

Most are pay-and-display and offer accessible bays.

Getting Here by Train

Hawick does not have a train station, but rail travel still gets you very close.

Nearest stations:

Galashiels (ScotRail Borders Railway)
Tweedbank (end of Borders Railway line)

From there:

Taxi from Galashiels to Hawick: approx. 35–40 minutes
Bus connections also available (see below)

From Edinburgh by train

Take the Borders Railway from Edinburgh Waverley to Galashiels or Tweedbank
Continue by taxi or bus to Hawick

It’s a scenic route through the Borders, worth taking your time.

Hawick is well connected via local Borders bus routes.
