From where cashmere is king and tweed was invented

Woven into the fabric of our hometown of Hawick is a rich textile manufacturing history, dating back hundreds of years.

The Borders Distillery tweed throw, created by our neighbours at Lovat Mill on commercial road in Hawick, is inspired by the process of Scotch whisky making and the landscape that surrounds us.

A stylish piece of the Borders – our distillery tweed throw.

About Lovat mill

Just along Commercial Road, a few steps from The Borders Distillery, sits Lovat Mill – known worldwide as The Home of Tweed.

Set on the banks of the River Teviot, just a stones throw from our distillery the mill carries forward nearly 200 years of textile heritage, rooted right here in Hawick, where tweed itself was born.

There’s a natural kinship between what they do and what we do. Where we work with grain, fermentation and cask, Lovat Mill works with wool, yarn and loom – both shaped by the same Borders landscape, the same water, and the same quiet obsession with craft.

Their tweeds, woven on Commercial Road just metres from where the fabric first took its name, are exported across the world, carrying a piece of Hawick with them in every thread.
