As an all-year-round working distillery, the tour will be conducted whilst the distillery is in full use. Watch our delicious spirits being produced right in front of your eyes.

The Building

The Borders Distillery building is an award-winning conversion of the former Edwardian electrical works, and it is proud to be the first Scotch Whisky Distillery in the Scottish Borders since 1837.

Our architects made it a priority to preserve as much of the beauty of the former building as possible, such as the high Victorian glass ceilings that allow the distilling halls to be lit up by the Scottish sun. Or the steel hoist structure from the original workshop that has gone on to become a picture window frame to the shop. Or the old teak school desks, which were salvaged and reused to form furniture and windowsills.

On the tour you will discover how it was through creative solutions and forward-thinking such as this, that The Borders Distillery won the RIAS Conservation and Climate Change Award 2019 and the EAA Architectural Awards 2019 – Regeneration/Conservation Award.

 Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. 4 of us attended a tour today and it was brilliant. The guide was very knowledgeable and the tour was interesting. Had the chance to taste some of their whisky, gin and vodka, (those driving were given a little bottle of their taster) as well as recieving a glass to take home. The shop was reasonably priced.  Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Visited not long before closing, but after looking around the shop was ordered a small tasting of the 3 whiskies to help decide. Even though this is a relatively young distillery, the things they're doing with the fermentation, maturation and cask selection is making the whisky less like a young whisky. Unlike other new ones, their price point of £35 each (30 if you buy all 3) is very reasonable.

Our tours are available year round, 7 days a week at 11am, 1pm and 3pm.

Walk-ins are welcome to join our allocated tour time, subject to the availability. You are also welcome to visit our Brand Home 7 days a week, 10am-4:30pm.

Call our distillery to book on 01450 374330 or purchase tickets using the link below. Tickets are priced at £20pp, under 18s are welcome to tour free of charge and do not require a booking space, but must be accompanied by an adult.

How to get to the borders distillery

The Borders Distillery is easy to reach, whether you’re coming from Edinburgh, Carlisle, or further afield. We’re proud to be the first Scotch Whisky distillery in the Scottish Borders since 1837, and even prouder to welcome visitors from across the world to see it for themselves.

Getting here is all part of the experience. Rolling countryside, historic Borders towns, and a proper sense of arrival when you hit Hawick.

HOW LONG IS THE TOUR?

Our distillery tour is around 45 minutes. You will be led by one of our distillers, taking you through the history, process and people behind our distillery.

Do I need to book in advance?

We recommend booking in advance to guarantee your spot. Walk-ins are welcome when space allows, but tours often fill up quickly, especially weekends.

is the distillery accessible?

Yes, our distillery and tour is fully accessible – one of the only fully accessible distillery tours in Scotland.

Under 18s are welcome on the tour and go free. They must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
