About
Puffing Billy Steam Vodka is unfiltered malted barley vodka, named for the rare still which plays a key role in its production. First we pot-distill spirit from locally-grown barley, then we re-distil it into vodka using Puffing Billy, our specially-commissioned Carterhead Still.

What makes it special
Regular filtration would strip away the delicious flavour and texture of our locally-grown barley, so instead the spirit is steamed through charcoal inside the still itself and never filtered as a liquid.

Billy Needs an Espresso

Recipe

  • 40ml Puffing Billy Steam Vodka
  • 30ml fresh hot espresso
  • 30ml coffee liquor

Method

Pour ingredients into an ice-filled shaker. Shake hard. Strain into a martini glass. Finish with a dusting of cocoa powder.

Borders Mule

Recipe

  • 50ml Puffing Billy Steam Vodka
  • 25ml cloudy apple juice
  • Juice of half a lime
  • Ginger beer

Method

Pour vodka and apple juice into an ice-filled rocks glass. Top up with ginger beer, squeeze in lime juice. Garnish with a wedge of lime.
